How do I create a hard-drive partition in windows xp so I
can install linux as a multiple boot?

Can I change the default location that programs want to install to, without
always having to browse to my preferred location on another partition?  
Every program wants to be in C:\Program Files unless I change the
installation location every time I install something.

The silver taskbar with the orange start button is my

i can't right click on *.SCR to install, test, or configure screen savers
nor can I right click on *.REG files to edit or import them and i can't
