I need to increase the number of file handles a Dos
application can open at any one time.  In the past adding
a line "Files=99" in config.sys would set the max number

I tried to run System File Checker from a command prompt as I usually do.
However, this time, it kept asking me for my original CD.  Finally, the
process finished.  I rebooted and tried again without the CD - but it kept

My desktop has decided to show a common tasks bar to left

Running XP PRO on a new machine.  Four users.  Whoever
logs on after a boot automatically gets a
C:\WINDOWS\system32 Explorer Window opened.  The machine
is three weeks old and this behavior started about a week

just got a new computer with XP, and found the file and
settings transfer wizard. Fixed up the old computer and
new with a serial cable, and the transfer started -- with
a 28 hour tranfer countdown!

rebooted. upon restart,my pc said that I was removing net
meeting and do I want to continue and I said yes. now,
when I open explorer and open the program files
