When I want to map a drive on my machine, I am offered a choice of drive letters which always start with Z, and not the first available drive letter as was the case which previous iterations of Windows. Anything I can do about this?

I like the windows XP theme, but is there a way to make the task bar smaller (other than locking it) ? Also there are lots of toolbars that are big, start button is huge... I really want to make the most of my screen, so I want to make things a bit smaller than they are... any tips?

I am trying to put a carriage return in the LegalNoticeText string in the registry on a Windows XP system. I've tried using the NT and 2000 steps of adding 0D00 and 0A00 in binary, but neither of these work.

I can change the My Computer, My Network Places, and Recycle Bin icons, but they just go back to the default icons upon rebooting. Any ideas why this would happen? Thanks.

I followed the instructions in the Help Center for adding the command to print a directory to the Folder Options. This involved typing some script into WordPad and saving the file as prin.bat in the Windows folder.
