When the computer starts up it automatically loads some programs i dont need into the background and puts them on the right hand side of the taskbar. How do I stop them loading on start up?

Quite simply I want my status bar on IE and Explorer to be viewable by default. I can easily turn it on under "view" when I want, but it doesn't seem to stay on. I never turn it off, but I do find myself having to often turn it back on. I'm not sure why.

XP Pro has this weird cursor, which looks like a railroad spike. Visualize a capital T missing the upper bar left of the vertical. It shows up in Outlook Express, in Word, and here. Can this be changed? What alternative cursors might there be?
