I don't know what I did but I've lost all visual styles except for WindowsXP and Windows Classic. In Appearance, in the "windows and buttons" drop down list, those are the only choices. My *.msstyles files are still under windows\resources\themes where they've been all along.

I changed my name on my user account, but the old name for the Documents folder did not change. It is still listed as my wife's name when I pull the directory up on windows explorer. It is the name listed under Documents and Settings and then immediately under All Users in Windows ...

I've seen screenshots of people's desktop where they have shadows under windows (not menus), which really helps set the windows off from the background (and looks nice too). Is this done with an external program or is XP capable of this?
