A real pet peeve of mine us calling screen display utilities screen "savers". They do absolutely nothing to "save" anything about the screen. They are the same as running any program constantly - they're often unique and fun things, but you aren't

I am an old school PC user, since the days of old DOS. Back in the day, I used to make batch files and put calls into the autoexec.bat file to run them. Being the computer guru I am, I tried to show that to a friend of mine, but it didn't work!

Can I take my cab file of my hard dirve to give me some more sapce in my HD and when I install more Hardware I put in the XP CD. And to do that what file would I delete to reclam the memory.

In Win 2K it was possible to control the background color for the .default account. This is the data that is used when no one is logged in. One can also put in screen saver data, etc in the users\.default registry section. For instance, the reg entry below sets the background ...

I deleted a desktop theme which had no uninstall. All cleaned up, but no matter what I try, I'm stuck with cat figures for my folder icons! How do I delete these critters and default to plain folder icons. My husbans's icons defaulted on his logon: I'm the administrator, though.

I used to use Wave Events but XP has disabled the code it worked. I want sounds for when I open all the various programs I use, eg when I open and close Access. Is there anything out there I can use?

"Cannot create key. Error writing to registry." So, no programs cannot install extentions. Seems problem with authentication, but Im in the domain admin group. In addition, My Computer Properties -> Advanced -> Performance Otions -> Virtual Memory -> Change

If my machine is idle for about ten minutes, WinXP-pro brings up the USER window and requires me to enter my password before I can continue working on the machine. I know I can eliminate this annoying feature by eliminating the password, but that alternative has unacceptable ...

I recently upgraded my operating system from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home Edition. One strange problem I've had since the upgrade is that I now can't get any sound from my Roland SC8850 sound module through my PC monitors. I hear all other system sounds ok & CDs & MP3s play fine ...

I am trying to create a CD that only has (1) service pack 2 of Windows XP and all the patches since 8/8/04. I have the read the Microsoft articles but they don't discuss adding these items together. I extract all the Service pack 2 files into a directory call XP\i386.
