It takes forever for my Windows XP to load, but my Startup folder is empty.
Used to load much faster. Seems like its loading a lot of junk I don't (or
no longer) use. How can I strip it down so it loads only what I need  and
shortens the boot-up time ?

I'm trying to get a customised icon for a program which opens PHP
files.
Using Tools>Folder Options>File Types shows there is no association
for PHP, so I add it and navigate to both the program to open it and

full scan of symantec anti virus program v8.1 which has detected a virus
called "backdoor.trojan"  for a file called c:\windows\system32\gilsoh.exe.

I have programs in the startup menu that fill my screen at start-up. Need
help to get rid of the ones that aren't necessary. I'm running windows XP
Service Pack 2.

I was hoping I could setup a new email alert icon on the very bottom bar,
where the Windows Start button is on far left.  Is there such a customizing
feature for Outlook Express ??   I would appreciate any input.  I don't want
sound, but it would be nice to see if there is any ...

I'm using XP in Classic mode. I've also dragged a My Computer icon my

A few day ago my system was infected by a virus (Newfolder.exe)
I tried to remove it with different Antiviruses and NOD32 did it...
Now the speed of system and other things are running very well but:

I recently changed some settings, but I forgot where i did the changes..I
have noticed that when I click the start button to shut down windows, it is
now asking me if it was planned or not planned in a box...then I have to give
reasons for either a shutdown or re-start..

Problem with Windows XP log on/off sound, also Spider solitaire sounds.
Recently installed Skype, which I've since removed because sound didn't seem
to work, although all these worked/still work with MSN Messenger.
Since then all other sounds do work except for the Windows XP log ...
