Have DirectCD 2  - EasyCD Creater 3 and upgraded to XP Home - My system won't read and can't get restore from Quicken backup disc - Now what do I do

My external HD worked fine until I tried CasperXP as a backup solution.
CasperXP ruined the partitioning and formatting of that external HD and
could not even manage to end its own backup for reasons it could not
fathom out by itself. CasperXP could not manage to restore this

Has anyone ever received this error while trying to
install XP on a fresh install (new partitioned and
reformatted)?

I am a new computer user at my home using regular dial up.
I have noticed several times a drop box comes down with
the n-case saying it needs fixing, I wait until the drop
box says done, and close the window.  

I'm having trouble finding the max limits for WinXP...Is
there a 138GB limit, or is this more BIOS related and not
the operating system?
