My floppy drive lights up and spins when I launch

this is aproblem that has only existed for the last month
or so. my computer freezes frequently and does not
respond at all, forcing me to switch it off and reboot. i
ahve cleared all temp files. checked disk and performed

Turning the computer on, going to setup and then nothing.
Putting in a cd or a floppy disk and nothing.
Just sits on the C:\

If this had been an older version of Windows I'd have
used fdisk....but since that program don't exist on XP I
