DVD ROM does not recognize discs27 Dec 2004 22:22 GMT1
In windows XP the DVD drive no longer recognizes any discs I insert (I've
tried different CD & DVDs). When I go to the DVD
drive properties it says it's working properly. I've deleted & reinstalled
the hardware but with no success. I'm told I should perform non destructive

The integrated keyboard (PS/2) on my Inspiron 2650 notebook stopped working
in the middle of normal operation.  The power and standby keys work, along
with the mouse, but no standard keys respond, even on powerup.  XP says its
working fine.  Any suggestions?

I recieve this message in a 16 bit subsystem window when i try to install a
game onto my pc. the message is.....
C;\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXE.NT. The system file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and microsoft applications. Any help to resolve this problem so i can

I got this card to play DOOM 3 with..however after installing it into the
PCI slot and starting up the PC , the Monitor is blank although the power is
on . The installation manual reccomends that those who have on board 3D
graphics (like I have) should disable it first...does ...

Hi all, Quick question. When i plug in a digital camera or a usb hard drive,
windows says it finds it and says its ready to go but there is no icon
popping up for it in the my computer window. any ideas??

My hard drive is not large enough for the programs I want to use. So I want
to replace my 5.8 GB Hard drive with a 40 GB hard drive (second hand).I think
I got the jumper in it's righ place as master. But when i go to reboot i get

My problem is when I install my new drive my computer detect it and loads it
and it would be  drive D:,and  my cd-rom drive would be E:drive.So here's

I built a new system recently with windows XP Pro, ASUS MB, 160 gb disk1 and
200 gb disk 2.  The original installation did not have XP SP1 or SP2.  I have
since installed SP2.
Disk1 (160 gb) appears as a 127 gb partition and a 21 gb unallocated

When installing a USB webcam on my XP system I get a message saying

My friends computer when ever it starts the IE on it will start opening
several times.  At no time does it actually appear on the desktop.  But if
you look in the Task Manager there are several instances of it there.  You
try pressing the END PROCESS button and it pops up again.  ...

I've recently purchased a Maxtor 160GB hard drive and split it into two
partitions:
1) 60GB system files (where windows boots from and where I install every
program)

While your criticisms of darksydeavenger's lack of omniscience regarding all
things disk related are all very interesting, does not seem that anyone can
solve his problem.
