Any time I connect any USB device to my running computer all USB devices stop

I ave a pannasonic toughbook running xp pro sp1.  I added a pannasonic
dvd-rom.(plugged into a drive bay not usb)
The problem is...when I open 'my compute'r the dvd-rom icon is there but
when I double click it, the window opens but shows nothing in it.  I know

i have a creative vibra 128 sound card. the hardware was working fin
untill just recently.when my computer crashed from a program install.
ever since then i have no audio device. even though the sound car
under device manager is listed and said to be working.

HOw do i find out if my computer contains a sound card. I seem to have
problems recording, even though i have a microphone. I've tried plugging it
into the line in on my screen and mic socket on the system unit, and there's
nothing being picked up.

When i press the power button, sometimes I have to wait for few minutes,
then my computer startrting to work, or  and sometimes i push the power

I hope someone knows the answer to this and that it isnt as bad as I think

Reloaded xp home last night and everything seemed ok but all I get now after
boot up is the above message and black screen..Its possible I loaded the
wrong drivers for Ati rage graphics card as I did not have the original disk
so I found drivers at Drivers .com.Any ideas pls?

I dont know the exact error but every once in awhile I get a "Memory cannot
be referenced at "Address"" error.  Is this a problem with my memory or a
problem with the pointer in the application?  Ive run memory tests and
nothing ever comes back with a problem.

I inserted my new SANDISK Mini-Cruzer USB plug-in drive and it   would
not work. The instructions for the unit said that it does not need any
XP drivers!  Somehow, and I can't recall exactly how I did it, I
deleted all files on the Cruzer which appeared to be only security
