DVD-rw displays as CD in Explorer...can't burn CDs02 Oct 2005 20:33 GMT8
I have a brand new Dell 5100 with Philips DVD -rw 8701.  I had no problems
burning DVDs until a week ago.  Looking at some of the posts I now think the
problem may have started with a Windows update.
When I put in a DVD-rw it shows up as a CD Rom in Windows explorer.  The

I have recently encountered a problem with my USB port. I'm using a dell
Latitude d505. I plugged in a USB mass storage device, a toshiba 60gb one,
and the device manager pointed out a problem "Could not start device (Code
10)" ..

when you attach/install an internal CD/DVD drive, do you need to set
anything as master/slave drive?  I am thinking of using a separate cable
to do this.  I am not replacing anything except trying to install a new
one on a PC with no CD drive.

 Had a primary HD failure, replaced and reloaded, everything working.
Slaved failed HD, ckhdisk fixed, can read drive, but... the files I really
need are in the Documents and Setting/my name folder. When I attempt to acces
it I am denied. It was passworded and I'm guessing that ...

Windows disabled my DVD-RW and my CD-RW drives.  Came up as a code 22.  It
worked fine then I rebooted my system and windows says it cannot detect my
drives.  
I went to the device manager and clicked enable and the message comes back

Having had crashes in the past, I was happy to see a site go up taking
a survey of Maxtor hard drive failures.
They will contact you with the final results if you provide contact
info.  It might be interesting to see how many had issues with warranty
