How can I work out if my new PC has a combo CD/DVD drive?04 Dec 2005 19:17 GMT9
I recently bought a new machine. It's meant to have a combo CD/DVD
drive, but I can't play DVDs -- either films or data DVDs.
Is there a simple way to find out if it is indeed a combo drive?
If I look in device manager, and click on DVD/CD-ROM drives, it lists:

My modem works fine with SP1.  After installing SP2 the modem disappears from
the device manager. It cannot be detected by the add hardware wizard.  I have
tried 2 different modems, both function correctly with SP1. Restoring back to
SP1 restores the functionality of the modem. ...

I just installed a new Gigabyte motherboard and it has 2 lan ports. Should
both of these be connected to my router?

I had a SATA disk with drive letter C, an IDE DVD with letter D and a IDE
disk with letter E.
To day I mounted two more IDE disks.
This changed the letters of my DVD to G, an the already installed disk got

i installed some older software on my computer and now it is all bung, i
uninstalled it and done a system restore but it did not work.  now i have
backed up all the stuff i need to keep and i want to use the disc's that i

As soon as I installed my 320 gig Wes.Digital, it showed in Computer
Management as being only 298gig. After I formatted and assigned it a letter,
it still showed 298 gig. So where did the 22 gig go?

I have the Microsoft brnaded MN-520 Wireless PCMCIA Adapter. I have mispalced
the instal disks and cannot reintall it. It shows up in my device manager as

I just plugged in a mass storage device through a USB port, and it appears as
if it installed correctly.

Guys,
When I originally bought a Seagate 40Gb drive I partitioned it into 3 with
the C drive being 10Gb in size. My intention was always to keep this more or
less free of clutter so any new installs I put on a different partition from

I have been fighting problems encountered when trying to burn CDs and
DVDs on my Dell XPS Gen 4.  During marathon calls to Dell support, I've
reinstalled drivers, drives, reseated cables, taken out registry
entries, rebooted a minimum of 100 times (maybe 100,000 - I've lost
