My machine ran with 2000 previously and I installed XP SP2 yesterday. After that, the hard disk starts to noise loudly and frequently. My Win2000 was on G: and I formated C: from FAT32 to NTFS to install the XP. What might be going wrong?

Since I reformatted my hard drive the other day, I have been unable to reinstall windows on it. The drive is showing up in the BIOS and in the windows installer, however it can not be accessed. I have tried this hard drive in a different pc, and the same thing happens -
