okay i went and buy another hard drive for my computer it is an external usb
hard drive it said plug and play so went i plug it in the wizard came up and
said it couldn't find the hardware please help me please

For what it's worth,  in my PRIMITIVE Phoenix bios (no upgrade
available) when I set the hdds to "user" and selected Transfer mode =
FPIO4/DMA2 and DMA MODE = 4 Windows XP set my drives to UDMA 33.

it's been a while since I had any problems with my system, but last night my screen flickered and then went black. I couldn't turn it off using windows .> down arrow> enter >enter. I replaced the monitor and the original works, however this morning it seemed to splutter again.

I have my home desktop PC which shares an Internet Connection and a Printer

My Dell Inspiron 8100 has an annoying habit. Whenever I turn the laptop off
and carry it back from my office to the house (100 yards, very carefully)
the chances are that I then get the start up message "No fixed disks or
optical drives detected - Press F1" or something like that. ...
