I have a Sony DVD/CD-RW and a NEC 1300A DVD+/-RW slaved off of it.  
Everything that is supposed to work on the Sony is doing fine.
Just recently, my NEC 1300A DVD-RW quit recognizing RW discs and, once a DVD
disc has been burnt with data or movies, it won't recognize them either.  ...

sound only comes out of one of my speakers. They are the Harmon/Kardon
speakers that came with the computer. is it the speaker itself or what?

if a software is using about 20-30 precent of CPU most of it's running time,
will this cause more power consumption of the machine?

I tried to install Ubuntu. Canceled it before the finish. Now there
still is two partitions in my slave disk. My problem is that Windows
does not recognize the files.
I tried a couple of file recovery programs, they do not recognize my

I tried the suggestions from Og and Kawosa,  however the tag *Device Usage*
is not accessible.  It does not highlite to open and use.  Any suggestions to

Just bought a Dell Dimension 1100, I saved the hard drive from my old
computer a Maxtor Diamond max Plus 9 120GB ATA/ 133 HDD. The computer only
has one connector for the hard drive, but since it did not come with the DVD
drive I was wondering if I could put it on that EDE cable ...

Problem
Pioneer 110D (16x DVD burner FW 1.39 - latest) will only burn at 8x due to
IDE controller transfer mode of multi-word DMA mode 2 being max speed
setting, according to Device Manager, despite having the burner rated as

g hard drive.  Want to replace w 120g hard drive.  Currently using ultra
ata/66.  New hard drive ultra  ata/133.  Is this upgrade compatable?

I have a portable USB 250GB HD.  Recently, when I plug it  in, it take a LONG
time (2 hours+) before Windows recognises it and allows me to use it.  Once
connected it seems fine, all data seems to be there, and it responds as
quickly as ever - so it seems to be  just a very long ...
