been formatted?

I have a sony cdrom dvd/cd rw drive..I place a cd in the drive and it says
that there is not cd to insert.  I have checked all i can, but nothing seems

During a recent move I have misplaced my XP operating system disk.  I'm
trying to access my fax console because I can send but not receive faxes.  
When I went to Program/accessories/communications it doesn't  display a fax
console.  Also in Windows Components the fax service box ...

I am taking an operating Systems Class which covers all the basic
fundamentals of how operating systems work.
The final project for this class is to construct an operating system
using XP
