I have recently bought a new hard drive and was wondering what was the best set-up to have my 2 drives and 2 optical drives, for example, both HD attached to the primary IDE channel (1 master and 1slave) or 1 HD on each seperate channel (HD as master and optical as slave)?

Ok, i've spoken to a microsoft technician on this matter, but they seem to be as stumped as I am... About a month ago I came to use my computer and it wouldn't boot into windows (just kept hitting the windows logo screen and then restarting).

After 6 months with this configuration and everything working just fine, my system now suddenly locks up VERY shortly after clicking on any XP login icon -- using two Maxtor 120GB SATA HD's; Win XP Pro; and, CA's EZ Armour security stuff.

and thought i reistalled the printer( HP), installed another printer (Lexmark), a web cam and Bluetooth dongle, none of them worked. When printing, i get the message that the doc is printing, but nothing is really printed.

My hard drive is continually active even when I'm not doing anything on the computer. It's like it's contantly indexing. Is there any setting I can click to turn this off in XP SP2. Even as I'm writing this message, the hard drive is constantly churping like an annoying budgie. ...

I have read a few articles on RAID and I have some general questons As RAID should ideally be set up before HD's are partitioned and formatted, I assume this means before Windows is installed. But the software interface used to configure RAID only runs on Windows.

If my USB modem is running my 2 front USB ports quite often will not work, anyone know why? They work OK when modem's not running but still connected. I have 4 at the back which are used, the modem, printer, external HDD (these 3 all have their own PSU's) and USB keyboard.
