Im fed up with installing XP on thinkpad t20. Install goes well till

I installed my second dvd writer, but forgot to change the master thingie,
so I connected two masters. After I had corrected the problem none of the two
worked again. In 'Computer' no cd rom drive is recognised now.

Is it possible to change drive letter for CD-ROM/Dvd-ROM  drives  in WinXP
Pro. I was able to do that in Win98 thru Device Manager.

I recently re-installed XP (SP2), and before I formatted my master hard
drive to run a clean install of XP, I backed up the files I needed to a
slave drive.  Now that the master drive has been formatted, and XP
installed, it won't let me read any of the files on the slave drive.

I hope you can help i will try to explain clearly the problem.
When i turn my pc on i get a mesage saying disk read error, have restarted
numerous times same message.  In my pc there are 3 drives 40gig master and 2
200gig slaves on differnet ide channels.

I have a portable computer and i only have 1 dvd drives, but i can see 2
drives in "my computer". I have tried to uninstall the drive that does not
belong but i returns when i reboot ???  How can i get rid of it ?
