I have a Sony DVD DRU-800A and it plays CDs fine through my computer's
speakers but when I put a DVD in I get video playback but no audio. I am
incredibly confused. I have used several progams to play the DVDs with the
same results. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Windows XP, DVD-RW drives, and you07 Apr 2006 20:03 GMT4
Ok, so I had to reinstall XP. Now, XP doesn't recognize my DVD-RW as either a
DVD burner nor a DVD ROM drive. It only sees it as a CD-ROM drive.
What have I done to fix it?
1. Updated firmware... there is no new firmware for this drive.

SATA Drives: Breaking data connectors?07 Apr 2006 13:56 GMT7
Just wondering if anyone out there has seen this....
We sold a very large pile of computers to a big private college. The
students go digging around in the machines, removing connectors and putting
them back on, as part of PC Intro course. We're starting to see drives come

My wife's eMachine's motherboard and/or CPU just fried on her 1+ yr
PC.  I was hoping it was the power supply but that turns out not to be
the case.  Thankfully the hard drive is fine (so this guy tells me).
We are under pressure and she needs a new PC immediately.  So that
Possilble to tell if the Motherboard is fried, or just the CPU  (or both)?07 Apr 2006 03:17 GMT3
If it is just the CPU then I can try and find a replacement or upgrade
and that would be the best!  If it's the MOBO, then obviously might as
well get a replacement eMachine for my wife.
Is it possible to tell if a MB is bad?  If the CPU is bad?
