i have just purchased a new external hard drive as my old one was too small. i want to know if i can use it as the main drive. is this at all possible, the PC i currently have is a HP Pavilion t620a. Can i use the external one just like an internal hard drive???

I have an external fan powered by my USB. When I place the computer on standby, I would like for the power to the USB to shut off until the computer is removed from standby. Currently, the fan remains running unless I turn it off manually. Any suggestions?
