XP 100% CPU on HP Pavilion Laptop05 Oct 2006 01:33 GMT1
XP Xperts,
I have an HP Pavilion ze4100 laptop running Windows XP with 640 MB
memory, and plenty of disk space. When the machine comes up, the CPU
arbitrarily jumps up to 100% usage, and the mouse pointer disappears.

Currently the BIOS is not set up for RAID, and the VIA drivers are not
installed in XPPro.
Slave hard drive not accessible04 Oct 2006 18:24 GMT2
I transfered a slave hard drive from one computer to another but now when I
try to access it, I'm told I have to format it. There is a large amount of
information in this hard drive and I would really like to get at it. I was
told that this is probably due to the old computer ...

fine with my scanner in win2k.  But now, WinXP does not even see the

buying a special usb cable?
Newbie needs major help04 Oct 2006 12:46 GMT1
OK. I admit it. I messed up and hopefully someone can help me get this back
to the way it was. I was fortunate enough to come across a PC that a buddy of
mine was getting rid of for parts. I thought I would add a 2nd hard drive to
my system but the drive was WAY too small ( only ...
USB 2.0 ports running at 1.104 Oct 2006 08:05 GMT6
Though the asus A7N8X deluxe mb states it has 6 usb 2.0 ports, they all seem
to be running at 1.1 speed.  I can tell this because the Maxtor One Touch II
external drive will not exceed ~ 1mb/sec on any port.  Maxtor states this
means it is not on a 2.0 port.
Drive Speed Issues04 Oct 2006 06:43 GMT4
I have an older Dell computer, Pentium 4 , 1.8 gHz. It has a CD burner and a
Memorex 8X DVD burner; both internal. I seem to be having an issue with drive
specifications. The CD burner is now only being seen as an 8X burner. How can
I get it to be seen correctly.
Use KVM switch for monitors only?04 Oct 2006 03:34 GMT3
I am assembling a new system which will have dual VGA outlets. I would
like to leave my existing system as is but be able to occasionally use
that monitor from the new system. Would I be able to connect only the
VGA portion of a KVM switch (no power supply needed, button control, ...
14.7 mb/s write speed for SATA raid?04 Oct 2006 02:37 GMT2
I've heard that write speeds are not improved all that much by either sata
or raid.  Hoping from some improvement, I've just moved a Raid 0 (striped)
partition from 2 maxtor drives to 2 new WD ones.

I have a new Cruzer Micro USB Flash Drive and when I click on it to save

Question about Stand By03 Oct 2006 21:29 GMT3
Is it possible to put a Windows XP system into simple Stand By and then have
it be awoken via a network ping? We have two systems that don't need to be
accessed more than about 30 minutes per week and would love to put them into
a lower power state. But when we need them, it's a ...
