I've noticed on my D: drive while defragmenting using
Diskeeper that there is an amount of space reserved
for my system. The drive used to be my C: drive and
when I added a new drive I did not reformat it as

I was asked by a friend to install her copy of xp for her, it was left with
me and this was carried out. When returned & connected to her monitor it
would boot, display the splash screen, flicker briefly and display nothing
else.

I can record and play on CD-RW.  
I can play DVD ROM but can't record onto DVD-RW.

This drive burned, erased, copied, and played back just fine under
Windows 2000 Professional using Roxio Easy CD Creator. The drive works
