Failure to boot into XP with NEC 6750A DVD installed24 Dec 2007 16:17 GMT4
Toshiba Satellite A20 laptop with XP professional SP2.  Installation of NEC
ND-6750A DVD unit presents a problem.  Turning machine on, everything runs
just fine until we get to the start of XP boot - system freezes.  Seems this
is a problem of compatibility or lack of DVD drivers ...

I had a Iomega Zip External Drive on my system.  I removed it as I did
not need it anymore (got an external WD Harddrive instead).  But,
after removing the USB Zip Drive, it still shows up in My Computer and
also in "Safely Remove Hardware".  I can go into Safely Remove

I'm sure I saw a reference somewhere to setting Win XP to boot the PC
automatically at a pre-set time of day.  Blowed if I can find it now, and
'Help' doesn't seem to work, nor does the Power Options icon in Control
Panel.  Am I dreaming this?

I recently bought a cheap-o 7.1 soundcard for its optical SPDIF input.
I wanted to use the optical in to connect my PS2 through it, and so ge

I've enjoyed this group on the 'hardware' side of things, and when I
realized that my current question was 'software' oriented I assumed
I'd find a microsoft.public.windowsxp.software group.  I couldn't even

Got an IDE drive on external casing. Used it between home and work. lately

I got an external USB hard disk enclosure. It works fine on my laptop,
it gets detected, drivers get loaded, and everything shows up fine in
Device Manager, and a drive letter is assigned to it. When I put the
