I have an Athlon64 machine which boots and runs perfectly under Linux,
but which I have great difficulty booting into Windows XP.
Basically, the boot fails 9 times out of 10
when it reaches the stage where it tries to start graphics mode,

I am having an ongoing problem with my PC suddenly shutting down for no
apparent reason.  It usually happens when I am running a video
conversion program (e.g., avi to mp4; DVD Shrink).  At first I thought

I'm trying to burn data files on on a  cd-r 90 blank  (780 MB).
But the media size is detected as only 703 MB (both WinXP CD writing
software and Nero).
Is this a software limitation or problem with my drive, firmware, etc, or

I have upgraded my memory from 2GB to 4GB, using a set of matched 2x2GB
memory sticks.
During boot the BIOS correctly reports that installed memory is 4096 MB.
However, XP does not seem to recognize the memory upgrade.

whenever i try to download (anything), i see, thru Process Explorer,
that DPCs is consuming most of my cpu: 65 %
CPU is at 99%.

Recently my printer was attatched to a different USB port and now Windows XP
Pro goes through this install hardware wizard everytimes I boot up.  My
printer is installed correctly and working fine.  How do I stop Windows from

This morning I lost the sound on my new Toshiba laptop.
The sound had been working fine until this morning.
