Occasionally, when I log into Windows Messenger (v4.7.2009), my display
name is shown as a (seemingly) random one from my list.  Sometimes I have
to sign in 3 or 4 times before Messenger will show my own display name as
opposed to that of one of my contacts.

SP2 fixed Windows Messenger24 Aug 2004 17:10 GMT9
I had been having problems with Windows Messenger for several months.  It often
wouldn't start, XP instead showing an error message and asking if I wanted to
send an error report to MS.  Deleting and re-installing WM didn't help.  Nor did
doing a repair install of XP.  But whatever ...

Windows Messenger & MSN v.6.224 Aug 2004 04:27 GMT1
I normally use v.6.2.  I was given to understand that Windows
Messenger comes in a bundle with Windows (in my case XP Home).  I have
just disabled v.6.2 from my start-up menu so I can load up manually.
But I have a problem.
Windows Messenger still around24 Aug 2004 00:32 GMT1
I've downloaded MSN Messenger 6.2 to use as my IM Client, but my pc
won't let me get rid of Windows Messenger,  so currently when I boot up
it starts MSN but when I use Outlook SmartTag it opens windows
Messenger.  Can I completely take off Windows Messenger?  and if so how?
Windows Messenger 4.7.3000 & Windows XP SP223 Aug 2004 20:04 GMT6
I just reloaded my system with Windows XP that had SP2 slipstreamed into the CD. I noticed that version of Windows Messenger changed from 4.7.2009 to 4.7.3000. Also you can't install the MSN Add-In to get e-mail alerts. Anyone else having the same problem?
TIA,
Greg
