When we go to sign in to messenger it lists several user accounts, how do I

Is there a way to stop the receiving of sounds when I get a message and am
set as away?  e.g. Windows Messenger automatically sets me as away after 5
mins of inactivity.  Someone messages me and I receive a loud sound notifying
me even though I am set as away.
