Desktop with WInXP Home SP2. Cannot respolve names to IP in normal mode. In safe mode everything works fine. I can ping by www name until machine is fully booted. Flushed DNS in safe mode.

when i connect via my dial up connection windows xp says the computer is connected fine, but when i open internet explorer no webpages are displayed, i have pinged www.bbc.co.uk and it says it is unreachable, the IP address is the same IP address as the server i am connected to ...

I just got a new Sharp MP30 with a built in wireless adapter. This is what happens: It hooks up perfectly with the wireless network, goes along for a while, then at some point, like during a download, it just stops receiving data.

I tried setting up the alternate IP config in the LAN connection and it worked fine. Bit it broke the wireless connection; So the user travelled and went to an offsite location that uses statics. So

I know there's a lot of info on this, but I can't sort it out, so I hope somebody has a minute to point me in the right direction. Home network, with two Win2K machines, a desktop and laptop, that successfully share files.

I have a LAN consisting of two PCs and a hub. Since upgrading one PC to XP SP2, neither PC can ping the other. I gather from reading here that the problem is often with the XP firewall. I think I have this turned off, but you never know.

I uninstalled McAfee Virus Scan and have now lost all network connectivity. I have an Icon in the task bar that indicates "Limited or no connectivity". If I click on "Repair" I get a message that it could not renew my IP address. I contacted McAfee and they had me uninstall Virus ...

The short version: My brother called and said his XP Home machine wouldn't boot. It got the old BSOD. It was virus'ed up the wazoo. I cleaned the drive with AdAware on another machine and that got the boot back (?). The boot said the drive needed checking. It caught 100's ...

Since installing sp2 on the 'guest' machine it will not 'go on' the internet with the host, it does ping the host ok, and see's the shared files, and also shares the printer ok it just won't go on the net. i have disabled the sp2 firewall, but that makes no diffrence
