Can anyone help, this is driving me mad!!! I have a brand spanking new DELL desktop, running XP pro SP2, and at no given time, the PC looses the connection to the network, files im trying to save to the network hang on saving, and i dont get any internet access at all

Is there any way of restricting access of a shared folder to certain computers and/or users on a LAN when running Windows XP Pro? I'm on a University network and I only want certain people to be able to access my shared folders.

I have 8 computers connected as workgroup, i am running all mechines windows xp. all mechines are password protected. the problem is you can access any computer on the network without password while it is protected. kindy someone tell any idea regarding this issue.
