I have tried repeatedly to connect a printer: Brother 5440N through a Netgear DSL/Router + Wireless. It is connected through a Cat 5 cable to one of the 4 wired connections. I've tried running the installation CD correctly.

Is it possible to split one ethernet cable to 2 connectors, so that 2 PC's can be connected to one line. I'd only be using one computer at a time and realize that using both at once wouldn't work. Is there any harm that could come of this? Say if both computers accidentally ...

I get an error message on startup that says 'Generic host process error' and another that indicates the problem is with svchost.exe. As a result, I have no network icon in the system tray and no network access. Any ideas?
