I have two computers at home, one, say named A, is running W2K pro. B is running Win XP pro, both with all current updates. They talk to the Internet and to each other through a D-Link router and an ADSL modem. I have set up a small home network named Home.

I will be purchasing a firewall for my home LAN and I will be setting up a VPN so that I can access my home computer when I am away from home. Does that preclude me from using Remote Desktop or can Remote Desktop be used through a VPN? Do both computers need to be using XP? ...

We have 2 units, one XP Home one XP Pro, operating on a LAN behind a Linksys BEFSR81 Ethernet router. I recently flashed the router to the latest firmware. For reasons unknown, both computers seem to have slowed down internet connection speeds lately.
