On Thursday (05/01/2006) I ran the MICROSOFT UPDATE on a couple of
WinXP machines and since then I can't get an win98 machines to connect

On windowsXP pro (with simple file sharing off), each shared folders have a
permission setting and a security settings. They both seem to do the same
thing -- permit or deny other users. Doesn't this seem a little redundant?

I set up a workgroup of a few computers running Windows XP Pro and Home
Editions at home.  One of computers can see all other computers but not
itself.  Other computers also cannot see this computer.  When I enable
Network Sharing and Security, below error message pops up.

will not share it's files it will, though, share the broad band connection.
