If I want to set up file sharing between two XP pro PCs (both are on the same LAN), would the existense of a unix/sco/linux server (but not a domain controller) interfere with this in any way? The server is running some custom accounting app.

I'd like to access my ISP's usenet server from work but they only allow access to it from within their network. My Home PC is in their network, but the PC at work is not. The home PC is running XP Home. The work PC is running XP Pro.

Well now explained better my problem: Others pc in my LAN can see my pc and I can see others, but I can access to other pc's but others pc can't access to my pc. Also I can do ping xx.xx.xx.xx to others pc but others pc can't do ping to my pc.
