I can't Access a server using an Alias29 Jan 2006 19:16 GMT1
When I try to access a server in my network by alias, I get the error message:
"You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the network".
but when trying to access the server with name or ip, it is ok.
What is the problem????

Hi - Ok, here is the problem.  I work as a computer assistant for a large
office complex.  Even the Systems Analyst in our IT group are stumped on

I'm running XP Prof XP2 and and a DSL connection that is always hot. I have
noticed that when my computer comes out of standby, even though the DSL modem
shows all things go with my internet connection and my router indicates

My little home network has stopped letting me see some of my computers.
They are not in my network places or ms home, however I can search for
computers and find them and access files.
I have turned of Norton and it makes no difference.

When i browse to a web site (mymsn, for example), the status bar in IE says:
Finding site: my.msn.com
for about 10-15 seconds before finally loading the page.  This happens with

Well, this is an interesting issue to which I am totally stumped.
Here's the setup:
I have three PCs in my home, two running XP Pro, one running XP Home.
