I'm kinda new to the computer networking deal and I'm trying to create a
network for my laptop and my desktop to use the modem on my laptop. Could
anyone walk me through this?

WinNT4 domain server, win2k workstation, winXP notebook.
WinNT4 can see all 3 computers in Network Places.
Win2K can see itself and WinNT.
WinXP notebook can see WINNT and itself.
