Our network are all 2003 servers  Our users (staff and associates) all are

I used to be able to send files to a shared cd-rw drive. I recently bought a
new pc and I can longer do this.When I try to send a file to the shared cd-rw
drive  I get access denied error. Both machines are XP Pro in same workgroup.

I'm trying to "network" 2 computers without a hub using a crossover

All hardware checks out OK.  (Tried different ethernet card, no change.)  
Internet access OK for other computers on home network, but I can't access
internet or other computers. I think some TCP/IP files may have been deleted.
CAT5 cable OK (works with laptop).

Got a new laptop running XP... brought it home, turned it on...
everything worked fine (wireless network).  Able to access net and other
computers and printers.  That was yesterday...
