hi guys thanks for your help last time, it has taught me alot about networking and yeilded some success. As suggested, I used the windows run feature found in the start menu to ping another machine on my network.

I have currently a desktop networked to a laptop in the same area via a cable. I now have a new desktop to replace the old one and will eventually have to set up the network again. Do I have to do anything like deleting anything on the laptop before starting on the new network ...

I have a network install in 2 weeks that I have to do, they have 10pc's running XP Pro, and they need all the desktop settings to be the same when i join them to their new domain... what is the best way of doing this? I cant seem to find any answers on this anywhere...

Got error message: “An error occurred while reconnecting H: to \\server\share. Microsoft Windows Network: The local drive name is already in use. This connection has not been restored." After log off and log on back, it restored. The local drive name is not in used.

Suddenly internet access has stopped working. I can ping external hosts ok, both by ip address and domain name, but IE / outlook just doesnt connect anymore. Its as if the TCP/IP ports are blocked but I dont know how to find out

I'm running ICS on XP SP2. Everything seems to be working except DNS on the internal interface. No DNS queries are able to be requested on the interface. I did an nslookup on a client and this is what I get.

When I initially created a "network place" in My Network Places to transfer files to a http server, I was able to check a checkbox to indicate that I wanted to have the username and password saved. The password and username were saved for several months.
