Ok, here goes.
I've got a Fujitsu Siemans laptop and a D-Link G640T Router.  I have a
standard ADSL connection with a standard ISP.

I have a problem where is I tracert an IP address on my local network - it
doesn't return me the machine name.  I'm doing this from a Windows XP Pro SP2
