i am trying to connect two xp computers on my network ,my desktop is

I have two computers that I want to network.  One is running XP Pro and the
other is running 2k Pro.  I know they should be able to work together, but
they won't connect properly.
How do I manually configue my network to make them work?

I am using windows xp home edition, IE7. My temporary internet files folder
is invisable, even to Search. The only way I can see the foldeer or its
contents is if I access via Disk Clean-up.
Even if I move the folder using Interne options it still remains invisable.

This is my first real exposure troubleshooting anything related to mapping of network
drives and/or folders so PLEASE be complete in your answer.
