my wired home network consists of 2 computers: PC1 running XP Home SP1 and PC2 running XP Home SP2. PC2 has a printer attached which I would like to share Both computers can access the internet through my Belkin router.

My wifi card is constantly showing "acquiring network address" - even though I have a strong signal and a fixed ip! If I reboot or disconnect from the AP on restart or reconnection.. it always shows acquiring network address...

Does anybody know of a way that you can remotely control the online/offline status of a printer? The printer in question is on a Microsoft XP/2000 network and is shared. Even if there's a cool command line utility to do it, that would be something!!!

My computer can no longer connect to the internet using my DSL connection after it got a virus. I need to establish an internet connection in order to run the virus protection software on it, or do I? How can I clean the virus off of my computer w/o an internet connection?

There are several Windows XP PCs on our office network. All have the same workgroup name. When in "My Network Places" all but mine show a globe shaped icon labeled "Entire Network". I need this to get to a particular site. Is there a way to force this icon to appear?

I have been researching postings about IP conflicts using DHCP. Although there are tons of such postings, most have to do with mixing DHCP with static IPs, or with split-second timing problems, or with clearing IP conflicts after they have occurred.

This example uses free software and Windows XP/2003 commands to retrieve the WAN IP from an external website. The method could easily be adapted to a webpage contained in the router/modem. I used a Win32 version of curl to pull the webpage at the command line.
