Sometimes I am unable to browse computers over the network share but when I
ping the IP address of a computer it's ok, then awhile later or after a
restart they work ok.

Right clicking a folder on my system and selecting "Sharing and Security"
from the displayed menu yields a dialog box that has no "Share this folder
on the network" checkbox available.  I gather from my reading, that this
implies that the computer is not on a network.

After VPN is turned on I cannot access my local network. I cannot work

I am running Windows XP Pro at work and we have about 5 different
network drives already mapped. One of the drives was F: and that is
the same drive my flash drive needed, so I disconnected the network
drive on F: and remapped it onto P:. Now when I start Windows, both F:

We have about 200 machines on a domain, connected to several domain
controllers.  All are Windows XP SP2 machines.  Home folders are set up in
Active directory to map to P: with \\server\mycompanydocs\%username% when
created.

We made some recent changes and are having response problems.  
Changed from: Client/server with a P3 domain controller as server with 500Mb
RAM and running W2K Server OS.
Changed to: Peer-to-Peer by replacing the P3 with a dual Xeon, 2Gb RAM,
