I had a crash on my Acer laptop over the weekend. Don't know what happened
but I can no longer get any DNS resolution, I can't even ping localhost(
though 127.0.0.1 is fine) . I can still connect to networks and I can reach
machines via IP address but I can't put their names in. ...

i have 3 PC's and a pc laptop hooked up to a router. one old PC in WIN-NT4,
the laptop is XP-home, other 2 are XP pro.
on all machines, I have either ZoneAlarm or Kerio firewalls running, in a
couple of cases, I believe the XP firewall is also "on".

Have been given a XPP pc which had been used on a office networks domain. I
changed the network from a domain to workgroup, inserted my home networks
name & rebooted.. When I try and log onto that pc it says that the domain is
no longer available and I can get no further.

 I have shared a folder on a machine running MS Windows 98 granting 'read'
