My situation: I have an IBM Thinkpad and it has an application loaded with it called "Thinkpad Connectivity Manager". Currently, I believe it manages my wireless connections.

I am connected to the local network but at one statioin this is the message (above). I can access shared files from other computers but the repair wizard says that the server didn't assign an IP address to that station and, when trying to renew the IP, it fails to do so.
