I have been trying do download Yahoo Instant Messanger

On bootup I've been getting an error saying
NT on-access scaner serevice. encoutered a problem and needs to close.
I don't have a scanner.  I've been playing with the startup programs.  I
can't seem to find this.

I had both Acrobat Reader 4.0 and 5.0 installed so I uninstalled 4.0.
Now Internet Explorer doesn't open PDF files >:-(   How do I fix this
