When I go to the start button and say search or find (I just upgraded to XP), it will not allow me to search. It just comes up with a Microsoft Error. How do I get that back?

i have office xp, and when i try to copy and paste something off a website, it says theres is not enough memory, and says close some windows. how can i get round this? i'm using a laptop, and it is p4.2.6ghz, 512mb ram, 128mb graphics card, 60gb hd.
