When I am online, I want my phone to drop my internet

my xp pro has taken to deciding it wants a consistency check on bootup. It
does files and folders, then it does free space, all without announcing
finding or fixing anything, and merrily says there are no problems. But it
takes two and a quarter hours to do this each time.

 I Scheduled my hard drive to run check disk(all options
were selected)at the next start up.  At the reboot chkdsk
message appears "cannot open volume for direct acess".  
How can I correct this.  Thank You.

When I try opening an attachment to an e-mail, it opens it in Word Perfect even though it's a Word Document.  How can I change it so it opens in Word if it's Word doc and Word Perfect if it's a WP doc?

got the following error:  "The signature for Windows XP
Professional Upgrade is invalid.  The error code is
800b0100.  No signature was present in the subject."
