When I hit Alt+F4 or click on Start/Turn Off Computer, the choices are Stand by, Turn off and Restart, in that order, with Stand By being the default choice. I've read in one NG or another that "Stand By" -- for reasons I cannot now remember -- is a good thing to stay away from.
