When I try to upgrade from W2K to XP using an upgrade CD,
my machine reboots (as expected) and then hangs, with a
very faint image of the WIndows XP logo on my monitor.
Any clues?

When I start my computer, it passes login screen and
directly goes to desktop.

I've been reading MS's site on SP2 and windows updates. I'm getting the
impression that after SP2 is installed, if I don't select automatic
updating in the security center settings, I'll be getting a pop up
constantly reminding me that I might be "at risk".

Any ideas as to why Windows XP Pro would start hanging up when shutting
down? You get the last few screens; "Windows is saving your settings",
"Windows is closing your network connections", "Windows is shutting down",
and then it goes blue screen and just stays there. The only thing ...

I was running Win 98 on my computer and recently had a
second hard drive installed. The new drive was designated
the Master and Win XP was instslled on it. Now my computer
will not recognize my modem which was installed just two

When I changed from 98 to XP home ed, I lost my mailbox,
folders, and address book.  I think they are
still "alive" in the backup of my old computer that XP
saved in case I wanted to roll back.  Can you selectively
