When I try to upgrade from W2K to XP using an upgrade CD, my machine reboots (as expected) and then hangs, with a very faint image of the WIndows XP logo on my monitor. Any clues?

I've been reading MS's site on SP2 and windows updates. I'm getting the impression that after SP2 is installed, if I don't select automatic updating in the security center settings, I'll be getting a pop up constantly reminding me that I might be "at risk".

Can I change my O/S with out too much problem. Or will I need to start all over with a disk format? If I can load over my current O/S, what can I expect in respects to how my loaded programs will respond? Thanks
