I am about to upgrade my pc from 98 to XP.  I have run the detailed upgrade
report and it tells me that my VIA PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller is not
compatible with XP.  My PC is less than 1 year old.  I have searched
drivers.com and Via's website but I have the latest ...

1.  Every other computer application in the world sorts file.jpg BEFORE
file2.jpg (as an example), however, XP chooses to do it the other way.  How
annoying. Can I change this?
2.  The sound control icon is no longer in the systray as it was in Win98.  

Anyone know how to shut that off so the icon doesn't show up in the tray?  I
go to the startup list through msconfig and uncheck the box, but it still
comes back ??

Can someone tell me how, using XP, I can connect to the internet
automatically? I currently use the "Broadband" connection to my DSL
provider.
I would like it to connect automatically when I log on my computer.

When I click on 'start' > 'programs'  there are three columns listed.
The third column on the right is almost off the edge of the screen.
Is there a setting I change so that all three are completely visable?

Hi every body,
I had an old version of 'XP Pro SP1' on my old computer.
I have a new 'Dell 4700' with 'XP Home SP2' and i connected the two.
I backed-up my documents and settings form old computer and installed 'XP

All of a sudden I am getting a message when I try to open any MS Office
programs. (i.e. Excel, Word). It tells me there are no Office Assistant
character files found please run set up in maintenance mode and install at
least one of them.

due to a number of problems that have arisen lately with my PC, I decided to
clean it out to get rid of all of the useless bits and pieces that have
amassed through the years. I reinstalled XP from the disc with a "clean
install", which has cleared my desktop and reset my drivers ...

I have automatic updates checked but i'm not getting them on the update site
it says they are checking i let that run for about12 hours with no luck other
than that everything else is working fine please help.

Ever so often I log in to Windows messenger and find out I was
already logged in.  It seems there is a copy of Windows Messenger
running in the background I can not see. Is there anyway to make sure
I see the icon everytime I am on?
