How can you tell by looking at the desk top that you booted into safe

I have just upgraded to XP and I have discovered that it seems not to follow
desktop shortcuts to folders which are buried layers deep on my networked
drive. This means, for example, that to attach a document to an email I have

I have a laptop that I upgraded from XP home to XP Professional. I have the

I am having a problem with.. when I'm on a page (website) that I want to
place a shortcut on the desktop, I click on Add a shortcut, etc., and it
acknowledges that it has, but there is no shortcut icon on the desktop.

I had my color quality set to 32-bit, and for some unknow reason everytime I
start my computer up it reverts to 8-bit.  I go in and change it back to 32
and click apply, but for some reason it doesn't stay after I shut the
